The Coping Power Program is designed for use with preadolescent and early adolescent aggressive children and their parents, typically delivered around the transition to middle school. Aggression in children, if not addressed, can lead to negative outcomes such as substance abuse, truancy, delinquency, and violence. This evidence-based program aims to mitigate these risks. The parent component consists of 16 group meetings during the 5th and 6th-grade years, teaching parents strategies to reinforce positive behaviors, apply effective discipline, improve family communication, support academics at home, and build family cohesion. Additionally, parents learn to manage their stress through relaxation techniques and effective time management, aiding in the challenges of parenting an aggressive child.
