This book explores contemporary belief in ghosts and other supernatural phenomena through narrative and discourse. Drawing on field research among women in England and comparative historical traditions, the author analyzes how personal stories of hauntings, visitations, and the “presence of the dead” persist, and investigates the cultural, psychological, and social dynamics behind such beliefs.
