This book critically examines the global and local dynamics of early childhood curricula, emphasizing the concept of "glocalization"—the adaptation of global educational practices to local cultural contexts. The authors analyze widely advocated early childhood curricula and ideologies, such as developmentally appropriate practice, child-centered approaches, constructivism, and the notion of globalized childhood. They argue that the direct adoption of these contextually bound approaches in local environments may be inappropriate if social and cultural compatibility is lacking. Through case studies from American and Chinese contexts, the book explores how early childhood curricula can be implemented in hybrid forms that respect local cultural nuances while incorporating global educational principles. This work offers valuable insights for scholars, students, and education stakeholders interested in the intersection of global educational trends and local cultural practices.
