This monograph examines the vulnerabilities of al-Shabaab, also known as the Mujahidin Youth Movement (MYM), which has actively opposed United Nations-supported African Union peacekeeping forces and the Somali Transitional Federal Government. The authors analyze al-Shabaab's strategic communication tactics, including its use of the internet and control of local media, to disseminate its narrative. They identify the group's weaknesses across diplomatic, informational, military, and economic dimensions and suggest leveraging these vulnerabilities through non-kinetic means, focusing on diplomatic and informational strategies.
