In "Plows, Plagues, and Petroleum," William F. Ruddiman explores the significant impact humans have had on Earth's climate throughout history. He examines three broad stages: when nature was in control; when humans began influencing climate through agriculture, leading to increased carbon dioxide and methane emissions; and the more recent human impact on climate change. Ruddiman also discusses how major pandemics, by reducing human populations, may have led to reforestation and subsequent dips in greenhouse gases. The book concludes by analyzing the future implications of human-induced climate change and critiques the influence of special interest groups on the global warming debate.
